Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure (B-Smile) Chief Engineer Raghavendra Prasad announced that the white-topping work on major roads within the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) limits is being fast-tracked.
This initiative covers 161.78 km across 16 packages with an estimated cost of Rs 1,700 crore, including Rs 800 crore in state government grants and Rs 900 crore from Escrow funds. The work has already started on 104 roads, spanning 145.68 km across 14 packages at a cost of Rs 1,487 crore. Additionally, tenders are being processed for white-topping on 14 more roads, covering 16.1 km. Contractors are mandated to implement strict safety measures during the work.
Between 2016 and 2023, white-topping was completed on 47 roads, covering 124.17 km. Looking ahead, a proposal is being prepared for 488 km of roads between 2025-2028. However, delays in obtaining permissions and issues with relocating pipelines remain challenges, though coordination efforts are underway to speed up the process.
