Bengaluru is poised for a major infrastructure upgrade with the proposed opening of a new loop at the Hebbal flyover, along with a separate 1.5-km tunnel road connecting Esteem Mall to the Veterinary College.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar announced that the tunnel aims to ease persistent traffic snarls at Hebbal junction, a key transit point for North Bengaluru commuters heading toward the city centre. This new tunnel is separate from the larger 16.75-km Hebbal-Silk Board tunnel road—one of India’s longest urban tunnel projects—currently being developed by Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure (B-SMILE).
The shorter 1.5-km project will be independently executed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), covering nodes like Nagawara, Esteem Mall, and the Agricultural University. BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao said the proposal will soon go to the State Cabinet. Integration of the tunnel with the broader Hebbal–Silk Board corridor is also under discussion to ensure better connectivity and project synergy.
