Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretch between KR Puram and Central Silk Board is set for a major upgrade.
The project, being led by Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure (BSMILE), includes a 10-lane road, with a six-lane main carriageway and four service lanes, designed to reduce congestion. It will feature widened footpaths, cycle lanes, and a Bus Priority Lane (BPL) to streamline public transport. The project, which now costs Rs 450 crore, aims to address high traffic volumes, currently double the road’s designed capacity. The BPL will eliminate congestion caused by bus shelters on the main carriageway.
Metro Phase 2A is expected to alleviate traffic further, with 1.5 lakh commuters anticipated by the end of 2026. Although the initial plan for white-topping was scrapped, key sections, including Marathahalli and Kadubeesanahalli, will receive white-topping for durability. The project is expected to go live after final approval and tendering.
