Bharat Heavy Electricals, on 10 April
2006, formally announced the winning of a Rs.1,200 crore order to set up on
turnkey basis a lignite based power project in Gujarat for GIPCL. The power
plant will be equipped with an eco-friendly, circulating fluidised bed boiler,
specifically designed to utilize low grade fuels like lignite, high ash coal,
washery rejects,
BHEL will set up two units of 125 MW
each (Units 3&4) for Surat Lignite Thermal Power Station Expansion project.
The two units will be commissioned in a tight schedule of 33 and 37 months
respectively. The earlier units 1&2 of 125 MW each at Surat Lignite TPS of
GIPCL were also supplied and erected and commissioned by BHEL.
BHEL already received during the year
for Lignite Based thermal Power Stations with CFBC Boilers for 2x 250 MW sets at
Nevyeli and 2x125 MW at Barsingsar, both from NLC and 1x125 MW set at Giral from
Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam.
BHEL's scope of work in the present
contract envisages manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of
Steam Turbine Generators, Boilers, associated auxiliaries, C&I, ESPs and
switchyard including civil works.
While steam turbine generators and
boilers will be manufactured at Company's Hyderabad and Trichy plants
respectively, the C&I system will be supplied by BHEL's Electronics
Division, Bangalore.
BHEL's outstanding order book position
of Rs.37,500 crore as at the end of March, 2006.
