A high-level meeting chaired by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari addressed the long-standing waterlogging and polluted drainage problem on National Highway-919 at the Bhiwadi-Dharuhera stretch.
The highway has been closed for 2.5 years due to accumulated domestic and industrial wastewater blocked from Rajasthan. Officials decided that Bhiwadi’s domestic sewage will be treated in a 34 MLD-capacity sewage treatment plant (STP) by March 2026, while industrial wastewater will be handled by a six MLD CETP upgraded to zero liquid discharge standards. Treated water will be transported to Sarai Khurd dam for irrigation and industrial reuse, with only clean water discharged into Masani Barrage under joint Haryana-Rajasthan monitoring.
Minister Gadkari directed a study for constructing a six-km drain costing around Rs 150 crore to provide a permanent solution, with Rajasthan and Haryana contributing Rs 25 crore each and NHAI covering the balance. Alwar MP Bhupendra Yadav called the decision “historic and concrete,” promising relief for residents, travellers, and industries.
