The Telangana government has secured a funding boost for the rejuvenation of the Musi river, with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) agreeing to provide Rs 4,100 crore (USD 500 million) for parts of Phase-I of the Musi River Development Project.
The loan will support key components of the first phase, which focuses on restoring the river's ecology and undertaking riverfront development. Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu informed the State Assembly that the state has also sought Rs 3,188 crore from the Union government under the National River Conservation Plan for pollution abatement and conservation works. The project has been divided into five zones, with the detailed project report (DPR) for Zone-I currently under preparation.
The first phase will focus on a 21-km stretch of the 55-km zone, led by the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation (MRDCL). An international consortium, including Meinhardt and Cushman & Wakefield, has been appointed to prepare the DPR.
