Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on 05 January, 2025 inaugurated 76 development projects worth Rs 451 crore in Muzaffarpur during the second phase of his Pragati Yatra. Among the key announcements were plans for a ring road in eastern Muzaffarpur, two road overbridges at Gobasahi and Ramdayalu Nagar rail crossings, and the widening of several roads to ease traffic congestion in the divisional headquarters.
The CM reviewed the map for a high-level bridge over the Bagmati River and the Garha-Hathauri-Atarar-Bawangama-Aurai road project, spanning 21 km, including a 3.35 km bridge, at a total cost of Rs 814 crore. Additionally, he inspected the site for a four-lane widening of the Muzaffarpur-Barauni section of NH-122. During his visit to Dighra Rampur village, he examined plans for the proposed eastern ring road. This 17-km road will connect Madhoul (NH-22), Dighra Patti (NH-122), and Bakhri (NH-27). The route, with stretches of 4.45 km and 12.55 km, aims to divert traffic from Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, and Motihari, allowing smoother travel towards Patna, Samastipur, and Barauni without entering urban Muzaffarpur. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce congestion and improve traffic flow in the area.
The CM directed officials to expedite both planned and ongoing construction to ensure timely completion. Nitish emphasised the importance of these infrastructure developments for enhancing connectivity and easing travel within the region.
