On 13 January, 2026, the Bihar Cabinet approved the construction of the Indrapuri Reservoir Project following an agreement between Bihar and Jharkhand regarding water sharing for irrigation and other uses.
The agreement, which had been pending due to disputes over the Sone River water, was finalized after discussions at the 27th Eastern Regional Conference in July 2025, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. As per the agreement, Bihar will receive 5.75 million acre ft. (MAF) of water, while Jharkhand will get 2.0 MAF. The project will enhance irrigation facilities in eight districts, including Bhojpur, Buxar, and Gaya.
In addition, the Cabinet approved Rs 155.38 crore for installing over 9,000 CCTVs in 53 jails, Rs 30 crore for the Bihar Advocates Welfare Trust, and Rs 314.20 crore for the construction of Bihar Bhawan in Mumbai. The Cabinet's decisions also included approving several key initiatives related to the reservoir project.
