Bihar is set to undergo a significant upgrade to its road infrastructure with the development of its first six-lane national highway and several expressway and access-controlled highway projects.
The Varanasi–Aurangabad six-lane highway, in its final phase, is expected to be completed by 2026 and will provide a faster link between Bihar and Delhi via Uttar Pradesh. Another key project, the Aurangabad–Chorda road, is also nearing completion, strengthening road links with Jharkhand and West Bengal. Bihar’s first access-controlled highway, on the Amas–Darbhanga route, is also slated for completion in 2026. Other ongoing projects, including two-lane roads such as Chakia–Bairgania and Parsarma–Saharsa–Mahishi, are expected to finish this year.
The Patna–Purnia corridor has received expressway status, and work is progressing on expressways and highways like Gorakhpur–Siliguri, Raxaul–Haldia, and Buxar–Bhagalpur. Several projects are planned for completion by 2026, further enhancing connectivity across the state.
