The Bihar State Power Generation Company has signed an MoU with North Bihar and South Bihar power distribution companies to procure electricity from the state’s fully owned 185 MW solar power project with a 282 MWh battery energy storage system at Kajra.
The project in Lakhisarai district, is currently the largest solar-plus-storage facility in the country and marks a major step in strengthening Bihar’s clean energy infrastructure. The first phase of the Rs 1,810 crore project began commercial operations about 10 days ago, after the work order was awarded to L&T in July 2024. The second phase, under construction at a cost of Rs 1,055 crore, will raise the plant’s total capacity to 301 MW of solar power and 523 MWh of battery storage by January 2027.
Solar energy generated during the day will be stored and supplied during non-sunlight hours to ensure grid stability. Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said, “The Kajra project will significantly strengthen uninterrupted power supply while expanding Bihar’s green energy footprint.”
