South MLA Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar recently reviewed the bio-remediation project at the Bhagtanwala dumpsite, where nearly one lakh tonne of legacy waste have been successfully processed and cleared.
Dr. Nijjar emphasised the rapid progress of the project, which is being closely monitored for timely completion. He highlighted that 350 truckloads of bio-remediated material, soil, and segregated plastic have already been removed from the site. The initiative is crucial for improving the cleanliness and environmental health of Amritsar. He further stated that additional machinery and technical teams have been deployed to speed up the work. The project’s completion is expected to significantly enhance air quality, environmental conditions, and public health in the surrounding areas.
The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) also continued its awareness campaign against the burning of municipal solid waste (MSW) in the region, holding sensitization sessions at Majitha and Ramdas.
