CESC may postpone the financial closure of the proposed 600 MW (2X300 MW)
Haldia project in West Bengal to take full advantage of the downturn and related
savings on project cost.
CESC was expecting the finance cost to come down by 1.5-2 per cent in next
few months, entailing substantial savings on the cost of its Haldia thermal
power plant. The project was originally estimated to cost Rs 2,400 crore.
The company has also deferred its proposed housing project at the site of the
erstwhile Mulajore power station in North 24-Parganas district, due to downturn
in the real estate sector.
Meanwhile, the implementation of the Rs 1,200-crore third unit (250 MW) of
the Budge Budge thermal power station was on track and the unit is expected to
go on stream in September 2009. The Budge Budge power station currently has two
units of 250 MW each.
