The Central Government has roped in Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) to set up power utility systems under ‘Smart Grid' technology to conserve and improve power supply.
The Smart Grid will be established at a cost of Rs 51 crore. The Central Government will bear 50 per cent of the cost and the rest by the CESC. CESC has identified a firm to invest Rs 12.5 crore and the rest will be borne by the CESC. The location of the grid will be planned in such a way that its benefits reached all categories of consumers — domestic, industries and commercial establishments.
Smart Grid refers to a technology used to bring in modern utility electricity delivery systems. Being a computer-based remote control and automation technology, it is considered crucial for making improvements in energy efficiency on the electricity grid and also in users' homes and offices.
