CIMIC Group firms Sedgman and Leighton Asia has bagged contracts for setting up India’s first zinc tailings recycling facility at its Rampura Agucha Mines in Rajasthan.
Hindustan Zinc has awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts, wherein Sedgman will oversee detailed engineering and offshore equipment procurement, while Leighton Asia will handle onshore procurement and construction. The collaboration combines global minerals processing expertise with local infrastructure execution capabilities. The facility will employ advanced processing technologies to recover residual metals like zinc and silver from previously processed tailings, transforming legacy waste into valuable resources.
The project is part of Hindustan Zinc’s plan to double its production capacity. in August, the Board approved an investment of up to Rs 3,823 crore for a 10 MTPA zinc tailings recycling plant at Rampura Agucha, set for completion within 28 months.
