Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to transform the Krishna riverfront in the Amaravati capital region, aiming to boost tourism and leisure activities.
This proposal received approval at the 57th meeting of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). Under the plan, tenders will be floated through the public-private partnership (PPP) model for the development of jetties, leisure boats, and food plazas. CM Naidu emphasised the importance of creating a comprehensive master plan that integrates riverfront development with water management projects, aligning with the vision of turning Amaravati into a "blue-green city."
The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of a proposed new barrage upstream of the Prakasam Barrage in enhancing water resources, which would help unlock the tourism potential of the Krishna river islands and waterfronts. Additionally, he urged financial strengthening of the Amaravati Development Corporation (ADCL) and CRDA, suggesting the Qatar model as a potential approach for the city’s development.
