Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) through its subsidiary Fresh and
Health Enterprises, has earmarked Rs 1,500 crore to set up cold storages across
India.
The company plans to set up about 18 cold storage facilities in three phases.
Under Phase I, storage facilities are likely to come up in New Delhi. While in
Phase II, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore are likely to be added, the
storage facilities are to come up at Hyderabad, Nagpur and Pune in Phase III.
Initially, the focus is expected to be on fruits. It plans to invest in a mix of
technologies to suit various types of fruits.
First such cold storage facility at Singur in West Bengal has been
inaugurated in November 2009.
This apart, the company intends to set up seven air freight stations in India
and the first two are expected to commence operations by April 2010. However,
the locations of these stations have not been disclosed.
The stations are likely to come up at its inland container depots (ICD). A
part of the warehouse area is likely to be reserved for air consignment. The
investment for the proposed stations is a part of the Rs 600 crore capex planned
for this fiscal.
The company has teamed up with Cargo Services Centre for air freight
services. The company provides air cargo handling, warehousing and cargo
security services.
