The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of Line 4 (Kharadi–Hadapsar–Swargate– Khadakwasla) and Line 4A (Nal Stop–Warje–Manik Baug) as part of Pune Metro’s Phase-2 expansion, marking a significant step towards transforming urban mobility.
The 31.636 km network with 28 elevated stations will connect key IT hubs, commercial centers, and residential areas across Pune. The Rs 9,857.85 crore project will be funded by the Central Government, the Maharashtra Government, and external agencies. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the project’s potential to improve commuting efficiency, reduce traffic, and provide a sustainable transport option.
With ridership projections reaching over 11.7 lakh daily passengers by 2058, Pune's metro network will soon exceed 100 km, reshaping the city’s transport landscape. "These new corridors will save precious commuting time, reduce traffic snarls, and provide citizens with a reliable, affordable, and green travel option," said Minister Vaishnaw.
