The Central Government has approved setting up of Units 5 and 6 at NPCIL’s Kaiga generating station (KGS) in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka.
However, the power station is yet to get clearance from the MoEF. NPCIL has identified 10 places in India to set up the nuclear reactors of 700 MWe and Kaiga is one among them. The reactors would be set up on priority basis in these places. After setting up of Unit 5 and 6, Karnataka will get 50 per cent of the electricity generated in KGS.
