Cairn Oil & Gas, a subsidiary of Vedanta has announced the discovery of new natural gas reserves below the Ambe gas field in the western offshore region.
The find was made in the Ambe-2A appraisal well, located in the CB/OSDSF/AMBE/2021 block. The discovery is situated in reservoirs below the main gas field, within the Miocene-Tarkeshwar formation. Cairn is currently evaluating the potential for field development and plans to drill two more wells as part of its ongoing drilling campaign. The company holds a 100 percent participating interest in the Ambe block, which was awarded to Cairn under the Discovered Small Field (DSF) bidding round three in September 2022.
Cairn's discovery is seen as a significant step towards enhancing domestic gas production and contributing to India's energy self-sufficiency. The company has noted that the field has the potential to enhance domestic gas production and advance the company's contribution to India's energy 'Atmanirbharta'
