The Union Cabinet, in September 2024, approved the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana – IV (PMGSY-IV) for FY 2024–25 to 2028–29. Under Batch-I, the Centre has sanctioned 316 rural road projects for Jammu and Kashmir, with an estimated cost of over Rs 4,224 crore, to connect 390 eligible habitations.
J&K is the first state/UT in India to receive approval under PMGSY-IV, covering 1,781 km of road length, the largest-ever PMGSY package sanctioned for the region. The roads will provide all-weather connectivity to remote areas, supporting socio-economic growth by linking habitations to educational, health, and market centres.
The national outlay for PMGSY-IV is Rs 70,125 crore, including Rs 49,087.50 crore as central share and Rs 21,037.50 crore as state share. The scheme aims to build 62,500 km of roads and connect 25,000 unconnected habitations nationwide using sustainable construction technologies and alignment planning through the PM Gati Shakti portal.
