The Centre has approved the development of a world-class marina in Mumbai Harbour, set to boost tourism and create employment.
The project will be executed through a hybrid model, with the Mumbai Port Authority investing Rs 470 crore in core marine infrastructure, while a private operator will invest Rs 417 crore in onshore facilities. The marina will accommodate 424 yachts up to 30 meters in length, and will include infrastructure like pontoons, service platforms, and gangways. The private operator will also develop a marina terminal, a Namo Bharat International Sailing School, a maritime tourism centre, a hotel, clubhouse, skill development centre, and yacht repair facilities.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted that the project will “create world-class infrastructure, open the waterfront for public use, encourage private investment, and generate new employment opportunities.” The bidding process for the project will close on 29 December, 2025, marking a significant step in enhancing Mumbai’s maritime tourism.
