The Central government has proposed to build a double-decker flyover connecting Chennai Port with other vital locations in Tamil Nadu. The work on Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway will also commence soon.
The flyover will be designed as a double-decker in place of four-lane as planned earlier by bringing in international consultants
The project cost will escalate to Rs 5,000 crore from Rs 3,100 crore as planned earlier. The GST for steel and cement will be exempted for the project enabling the state government to save Rs 500 crore.
Another Rs 1,000 crore will be borne by the Central government and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI),
The land acquisition has been completed for Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway project.
The state government has agreed to provide land near Chennai that is near the Port Trust and planning to bid it out before January 2021.
