The Chandigarh Administration has begun the process for construction of the city’s first flyover, following an approval for the revised detailed project report (DPR) for the project.
The 1.6 km flyover will be developed at the cost Rs 184 crore to be borne by the Centre. The flyover will be completed by June 2020.
Moreover, the shift stormwater, sewer and water pipelines along Dakshin Marg, which will cost around Rs 32 crore, will be shifted. The tenders will be floated on 26 February 2019 and the work will take around three months.
The flyover project was approved in 2016. In December 2017, STUP Consultants prepared a detailed project report, proposing 6.5 km flyover, beginning in Zirakpur.
However, in July 2018, the length of the flyover was reduced from 6.5 km to 1.6 km and the cost from Rs 390 crore to Rs 184 crore.
