The Union government is setting up a coal gasification-based urea plant with an annual capacity of 1.3 million tonne in Chhattisgarh.
The plant will come up at an investment of Rs 6,000 crore. The project will be developed on public-private-partnership (PPP) basis.
The project is in the initial stage, and the process for its implementation has started.
The government is raising domestic urea output by setting up new plants and reviving the closed ones.
The exercise is part of the new urea policy of the government that aims at maximising indigenous urea production, promoting energy efficiency in urea production and rationalising the subsidy burden on the government.
