Chintels Paradiso, a condominium complex in Gurugram's Sector-109, will be demolished and redeveloped in two phases following safety concerns. The Haryana Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has approved the plan. The demolition is set to begin within six months.
The first phase will see the demolition of towers D, E, F, G, H, and J, as confirmed by officials from Chintels India, the developer. The decision follows structural audits, which found all nine towers in the complex to be unsafe. While six towers were deemed unsafe by technical experts at IIT-Delhi, the other three towers were deemed unsafe in a Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) audit. Reports for the three remaining towers are pending submission.
The safety concerns were triggered by a tragic incident on February 10, 2022, when renovations in a flat on the sixth floor of Tower D caused a ceiling collapse, resulting in the deaths of two residents. This led to a structural audit ordered by the Haryana DTCP. The IIT-Delhi audit found five towers (D, E, F, G, and H) to be unsafe, with further assessments declaring Tower J unsafe in January 2024. Subsequently, Towers A, B, and C were also found to be unsafe.
The demolition plan will proceed with the approval of the DTCP, marking a significant development in ensuring the safety of the residents and the structural integrity of the complex.
