Cipla is planning to set up an SEZ
for pharmaceutical formulation plant at Bhootkhamb near Keri in Goa. The project
will cost Rs.650 crore.
The company is in talks with
developers to acquire 80 acres of land for the
proposed project. The project is scheduled for completion by 2008.
Cipla which has been in the
chemistry-based medicine manufacturing and marketing for almost seven decades in
India, is now planning to enter biotechnology as well and had recently tied up
with Avestha Gengraine Technologies (Avesthagen) for a biopharmaceuticals
development programme.
The company is also currently in talks
with biotechnology companies in Europe and China for acquiring large capacity
manufacturing facilities along with latest fermentation technology.
