Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL), a public sector company, plans to set up a ship
repair complex/shipyard near the proposed international transhipment port at
Vizhinjam, Kerala. The shipyard is likely to entail an investment of Rs 1,000
crore excluding land cost.
CSL has submitted the EoI to the Kerala Government for suitable JV. The
company is in the process of preparation of the project proposal and is likely
to submit a comprehensive proposal to the State Government in the near future as
well.
The company has projected a requirement of 150-200 acre with a waterfront
length of 1.5-2 km, which will have connectivity to the shipping channel.
Vizhinjam is a suitable location for a shipyard due to its proximity to
international port.
