Construction work on the Bridge Power plant of 400 MW has started in Tema, Ghana. The project will entail an investment of USD 953million.
The first phase of 200 MW is expected to be operational by the end of 2017. The project will provide over 17 percent of the country’s reliable generating capacity.
The EPL consortium consisting of GE Power, Endeavor Energy, and Sage is funding the power project which can be powered by either LPG, natural gas or diesel.
Phase-I of the project involves installation of five gas turbines and one purpose built GE steam turbine capable of generating 200 MW of power. The second phase will include installation of another four gas turbines and one purpose-built GE steam turbine. The project will operate under a 20-year PPA.
The consortium will be responsible for operations and maintenance of the project with assistance of long term equipment service agreement from GE. Endeavor will be responsible for commercial and construction management of the project.
The power project is structured as a long term combined cycle Independent Power Producer (IPP).
The electricity demand in the country is growing by 10 percent per annum and is expected to reach 7,000 MW by 2030.
