Corning Inc. and SGD Pharma have jointly established a new glass tubing manufacturing facility in Vemula, Mahbubnagar district, Telangana, entailing an investment of Rs 500 crore.
The plant combines Corning’s advanced velocity vial technology with SGD Pharma’s vial-converting expertise to produce high-quality Type I borosilicate glass tubing, essential for injectable drug packaging, diagnostics, biologics, and direct injection systems. The facility aims to address regional demand by expanding production capacity, localising supply chains, and enhancing proximity to customers. It is expected to accelerate the delivery of injectable treatments, bolster India’s pharmaceutical growth, and ensure safer access to critical medicines.
The facility will generate 150 direct employment, and hundreds of indirect roles, supporting the local economy and India's goals for self-reliance and sustainable development. Leaders from both companies highlighted this initiative as a key milestone in their global and regional strategies.
