Cuttack is poised for a significant infrastructure boost with the development of a Rs 640 crore elevated corridor connecting OMP Square to Kandarpur.
Aimed at addressing severe traffic congestion along National Highway 55, the 13 km-long corridor will feature service roads, double-lane paved shoulders, flyovers, and grade separators. Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab announced on 27 July, 2025 that the detailed project report (DPR) has been completed and is awaiting final approval from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH)/ Construction is expected to commence within three months of receiving the green light.
The elevated corridor is expected to drastically reduce travel time and enhance road safety for both daily commuters and heavy vehicle operators. The project was originally announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari during his visit to Odisha in April 2025, and will be funded under the National Highway Development Budget 2024–25. Execution will occur in phases.
The MP stated he has urged the ministry to expedite the approval process, citing growing traffic issues and increasing public demand. Coordination between the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and state agencies is already underway, with groundwork likely to begin by the end of 2025.
