DP World, a leading private rail freight operator in India, has introduced two new domestic rail services connecting Bhimasar and Hazira in Gujarat with Kolkata, West Bengal.
These services aim to boost cargo movement between western manufacturing hubs and eastern trade gateways. The Bhimasar–Kolkata service will run twice a month with an eight-day transit time and a capacity of 90 TEUs. The Hazira–Kolkata route will also operate twice monthly, with a seven-day transit time and the same capacity, carrying commodities such as edible oils, chemicals, steel, industrial goods, food grains, and salt.
The initiative forms part of DP World’s Rs 1,800 crore investment in Indian rail freight solutions. DP World’s network includes over 100 owned container rakes, SFTO rakes, 16,000 containers and trailers, seven inland terminals, a 15,000-pincode express cargo network, and over five million sq. ft. of warehousing. The company’s container terminal at Mundra and upcoming Tuna Tekra terminal further enhance multimodal connectivity in Gujarat and beyond.
