Talks between Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on the 42 km Nigdi-Chakan Metro route’s detailed project report (DPR) are in the final stage, with state government submission expected soon.
Touted as a “crucial lifeline” for public transport, the line will connect key PCMC areas — Nigdi, Nashik Road, Bhosari, Wakad Bypass, Moshi — to Chakan. Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director, Maha Metro, said, “After submitting the draft to PCMC, our teams have discussed various details with the civic officials. The talks are in the final stages.”
The fully elevated corridor will feature 31 stations and become Pimpri Chinchwad’s third metro route after the 17.5 km PCMC-Swargate line (operational) and 4.6km PCMC-Nigdi stretch (under construction). Planned to address rapid population growth and rising commuter demand, the route will pass Mukai Chowk, Wakad, Tathawade, Nashik Phata, Modhi, and Chakan.
