Mumbai is on track to expand its Metro network with the commissioning of sections of Metro Line 9 and Line 2B by December 31.
The two stretches, forming the initial phase of their respective corridors, include the Dahisar East to Kashigaon section of Line 9 and the Diamond Garden to Mandale segment of Line 2B. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is expected to approve Line 9 soon, with authorities aiming to complete the formalities before the model code of conduct for the upcoming municipal elections. The inauguration of both stretches is likely to be conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Line 9, a 13.58 km extension of Line 7, will improve connectivity between Dahisar East and Mira-Bhayandar. Line 2B, which is being developed in phases, will eventually provide a crucial East-West Metro corridor in Mumbai. Once fully operational, it will span 23.6 km and feature 20 stations.
