The Dakshina Kannada Coast is set to see a significant boost in its hospitality sector with a Rs 500 crore investment for four new five-star hotels.
The move, backed by both local and external investors, aims to address the region’s long-standing shortage of premium accommodations. Currently, tourists landing at Mangaluru International Airport often travel to Kerala or Kodagu due to the lack of luxury options. One of the hotels is under construction in Gurupura, while another is proposed for Kuloor. These projects are expected to be completed within two years, enhancing the area’s appeal as both a tourism and business destination. Industry stakeholders, particularly from the IT sector, have noted that the region's lack of five-star hotels has been a frequent complaint.
A senior Tourism Department official stated, “The launch of five-star properties will attract more tourists to this region,” highlighting the expected positive impact on tourism and local development.
