The Delhi Government, on 19 March 2012, approved transfer of funds to the NHAI as its input to resume the construction of eastern peripheral expressway (EPE).
The state government will provide Rs 621 crore towards the construction of EPE. The funds, which will be used by the NHAI to acquire land for the project, will be paid in installments, with the first installment of Rs 175 crore to be released soon. The land acquisition cost has to be shared between Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. While the Delhi Government has to pay 50 per cent, the other two states have to share the remaining 50 per cent. EPE has gone through the qualification stage and is due for bidding. The pre-qualified bidders for EPE include - NCC Infrastructure, Gammon Infrastructure, IVRCL A&H, KMC Constructions, Soma Tollways, GVK Transportation, IL&FS Transportation, Navayuga Engineering, IJM etc. The delay in implementing the project has resulted in an increase in the cost from Rs 844 crore in 2007 to almost Rs 2,500 crore.
