The Delhi government has extended its existing Electric Vehicle (EV) policy until March 2026, or until a revised version is notified. The decision, taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat, allows more time for comprehensive public consultations before implementing the updated policy.
elhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh emphasised the need for “broader dialogue” with citizens, industry, experts, and environmental stakeholders. “We want to ensure that the next phase of EV adoption in Delhi is shaped with inputs from all,” he said.
Originally introduced in 2020, the EV policy spurred increased EV registrations—particularly among two-wheelers and e-rickshaws. However, challenges remain in public charging access, battery end-of-life (EOL) handling, and waste management. The policy has been extended multiple times, with the most recent three-month extension expiring on July 15. Officials noted that the revised policy will likely address infrastructure expansion, subsidy restructuring, and clearer roles for public and private sector stakeholders.
