Large and Medium Industries Minister MB Patil announced that thousands of charging stations have already been set up across Karnataka, with plans to expand the state’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure further, as the automobile market increasingly shifts toward EVs.
On 12 January, 2026, Minister Patil handed over a Yamaha EC-06 electric scooter, produced by Karnataka-based River Mobility, to the Yamaha company at its Bengaluru facility. While Yamaha shares its brand and expertise, River will handle the actual production. “The commencement of local production of such two-wheelers, which make urban mobility eco-friendly, seamless, and sustainable, marks a significant milestone in the State’s industrial growth,” the Minister said, highlighting Karnataka's progress in building future-ready mobility systems.
The facility will produce about 2,000 units annually, with locally made batteries offering up to one lakh km of range and a 10-year warranty. Promoting local manufacturing will create skilled roles, strengthen the local supply chain, and open opportunities for small businesses.
