Delhi’s government has initiated a Rs 600 crore road development project aimed at improving connectivity and transforming the area along the Najafgarh Drain (also known as the Sahibi river) into a green corridor. The plan involves the construction of 60.77 km of new roads, including a 5.94 km two-lane road on the left bank from Jhatikra Bridge to Chhawla Bridge, and two-lane roads on both banks from Chhawla Bridge to Basaidarapur Bridge, totaling 54.83 km.
The corridor will eventually connect with key arterial roads such as the Inner Ring Road (Basai Darapur), Outer Ring Road (Keshavpur), Pankha Road (Vikaspuri), Najafgarh Road (Kakrola), and Dwarka Expressway, enhancing regional access and reducing congestion.
Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Parvesh Verma stated that the project will not only improve transportation infrastructure but also enhance environmental sustainability by integrating greenery, public toilets, street furniture, boundary walls, and signage.
The development aims to particularly benefit residents of areas like Punjabi Bagh, Paschim Vihar, Nilothi, Baprola, Kakrola, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Vikaspuri, and Chhawla. Work is expected to begin shortly.
