The Delhi Government has set a target to complete the long-stalled Barapullah Phase-3 flyover project by December 2025, according to Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma.
During his recent site visit, the Minister affirmed that construction work is progressing swiftly and that the remaining components will be finished on schedule. "This is an important infrastructure project for Delhi, which has suffered from neglect and inaction for several years. Since taking charge, we have prioritised this project and ensured progress on multiple fronts," said the Minister.
The Phase-3 flyover, intended to connect Mayur Vihar Phase-I in East Delhi with AIIMS in South Delhi, is designed to integrate with the current Barapullah corridor at Sarai Kale Khan. Once complete, it will significantly improve east-west traffic flow and reduce travel time for commuters. Currently, about 89 percent of the construction is complete.
However, the final stretch is pending forest department clearance for the relocation of roughly 250 trees. He highlighted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government has taken proactive steps to coordinate with the forest department to expedite approvals.
The Barapullah Phase-3 flyover was originally approved in 2014, with construction beginning in 2015. Initially slated for completion by 2017, the project faced prolonged delays due to poor inter-departmental coordination, administrative inefficiency, and delayed clearances. The new government has made the flyover a top priority, aiming to prevent further cost escalation and address long-standing congestion issues in the capital.
