The Delhi government has decided to hand over the construction of the Munak Canal elevated road project to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
This 20-km corridor will connect Inderlok to Bawana in northwest Delhi, aiming to ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time by up to 40 percent. With an estimated cost of Rs 4,700 crore, the project is expected to be completed in about three years. NHAI will handle the execution, while the Public Works Department (PWD) will oversee land acquisition, funding, and coordination with local agencies. The corridor will provide smoother connectivity to key areas like Inderlok Metro, Shalimar Bagh, DTU, and Bawana Industrial Area, while linking Urban Extension Road-II to Delhi's Outer Ring Road.
The project is expected to significantly improve urban mobility and ease traffic load on existing roads, benefiting several densely populated and industrial regions. Discussions with the Haryana government have also been positive.
