The Delhi government has launched an initiative to establish 10 Integrated Public Health Laboratories (IPHLs) across the city to enhance diagnostic services at the primary healthcare level. A committee formed by the Department of Health and Family Welfare has been tasked with planning and implementing the project.
The IPHLs will serve primary health centres (PHCs) and subcentres within their respective districts, improving accessibility to essential diagnostics. The panel is expected to submit a detailed plans outlining infrastructure, resources, and timelines—by July 7. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will oversee tender preparation to initiate procurement and execution.
The IPHLs are designed to strengthen public health infrastructure and ensure equitable access to quality diagnostic services in alignment with the PM-ABHIM scheme. The proposal will include specifics on equipment, staffing, and financial planning. Each IPHL will be equipped to perform 118 mandatory diagnostic tests. Selected hospitals include Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, Lok Nayak Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital, and others.
As per Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS), these labs must operate 24x7 with three specialists, 10 lab technicians across shifts, and supporting staff, ensuring round-the-clock service for the community.
