The board of
Cochin Port Trust (CoPT) has awarded the final bid for the
much-delayed Vallarpadam international container transhipment
terminal to Dubai Port Authority (DPA). It may be recalled that
nine companies were shortlisted out of which three participated
in the final bid.
The three
companies that were in the final race include -- DPA, IL&FS-Punj Lloyd Consortium and Maersk.
DPA would be handling the existing
Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal (RGCT) before taking up the work
on the proposed new terminal at Vallarpadam. The company would
operate the RGCT for six years or till four lakh TEUs is
achieved. DPA will have to put in Rs.2,000 crore for the proposed
terminal, with an agreed revenue-sharing of 33.33 per cent.
