The Durgawati dam and reservoir project will be fully operational by early 2018.
The project will provide irrigation facility in Kaimur and Rohtas districts of south-western Bihar.
Work on the 29 canals is in the final stages. Though the project was officially inaugurated in 2014, it has not been fully operational as the canal system was lying incomplete. The project will help lakh of farmers irrigate their land during lean months.
The state government has done the re-tendering and has awarded the work to new contractors to operationalise the canal system by March 2018.
The canal system is expected to irrigate 33,000 ha of land in Kaimur and Rohtas districts.
Also, work on the proposed Indrapuri reservoir on Sone river at Nauhata block in Rohtas district is being pursued on a priority basis. The reservoir, having a water level up to a height of 70 mtr is expected to be completed by 2019.
The potential of irrigation from the reservoir is 8.74 lakh ha. A hydro-electric power plant of 395 MW will also be set up at the reservoir.
