The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) will is expanding its healthcare footprint in Tamil Nadu with plans to establish four new hospitals.
Currently, construction is underway for two 100-bed hospitals at Sriperumbudur and Thoothukudi, which are expected to be completed by the end of 2025. In addition, ESIC has initiated the land acquisition process for four more 100-bed hospitals to be located in Erode, Dindigul, Chengalpattu, and Nagercoil.
Tamil Nadu currently houses 11 ESIC hospitals — three managed by the ESIC itself (including the ESIC Medical College and Hospital at KK Nagar, Chennai, and hospitals in Tirunelveli and Tiruppur), while eight are run by the State government in cities like Madurai, Coimbatore, and Vellore. The state also hosts 241 ESIC dispensaries, serving its large insured population — the second highest in the country.
The expansion plan underscores the Central Government's continued efforts to enhance healthcare access and infrastructure for insured workers across Tamil Nadu.
