The MMRDA's Eastern Freeway project connecting PD’Mello Road to Ghatkopar in Mumbai is expected to be ready by December 2012.
The 16.8-km long elevated road project is estimated to cost Rs 847 crore. The project is separated into three parts - from P D’Mello Road to Anik-Panjarpol Link Road (Rs 531 crore for 9.3 km), Anik to Panjarpol-Ghatkopar Link Road (Rs 148 crore for five km) and Panjarpol to Ghatkopar (Rs 168 crore for the 2.5 km corridor). The public transport and intercity buses heading towards Pune, Goa and Bangalore will be able use the Eastern Freeway and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) to avoid the congested road network of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai and save, at least, one hour.
