The Union Commerce Ministry has
approved eleven special economic zones (SEZs) in Punjab, while four others
are in the pipeline. These are expected to come up by the end-2008.
Of the eleven SEZs, two will come up
in Ludhiana, four in Mohali, four in Amritsar and one in Rajpura. Ludhiana SEZ
will be developed by DLF in a total area of 1,011 ha and another by Ludhiana-based
Rockman Industries.
DLF is coming up with a total of five
SEZs in the state, four in Amritsar and one in Ludhiana for which the company
has formal approval from the Centre. Other companies that have got formal
approvals to set up SEZ’s in Punjab include Ludhiana-based Rockman Projects,
Shipra Estates, Vividha and Mridula Infrastructure.
