As confirmed with Projects Today, capacity expansion work is progressing well at Wonder Cement unit at Nimbahera in Chittaurgarh district of Rajasthan.
The brownfield project involves expanding its clinker facility from six million tpa to 9.5 million tpa and cement unit from eight million tpa to 12 million tpa. Along with cement capacity, the company is also expanding its captive power capacity from 80 MW to 140 MW and waste heat recovery-based power (WHRB) capacity from 18 MW to 30 MW. The entire project is estimated to cost Rs 1,660 crore.
In 2015, terms of reference (ToR) was granted to carry out the expansion and in 2016 environment clearance (EC) was accorded. It took more than two years for the project to enter into commencement mode when the company received all necessary clearances in 2018.
As per the latest developments reported by the promoter, the expansion of the cement unit is expected to be completed by March 2018 and that of clinker unit by March 2019. While the WHRB unit will be expanded by September 2019, the coal-based power unit capacity expansion is still in planning stage.
