The last date to submit expressions of
interest (EoI) for setting up the proposed shipyard project on the east coast
has been extended to 28 February 2007. Earlier the last date for submitting the
EoIs was 31 January 2007.
The extension has been made on the
request of some prospective bidders. Ennore Port (EPL) is the nodal agency for
making preliminary preparation towards setting up the shipyard and inviting EoI
for the project.
The process of selecting the potential
developer/operator will begin after assessing the response from the firms. The
new maritime development programme envisages setting up of international-size
world-class shipyards on the east and west coasts, besides modernising and
expanding the existing yards. On the east coast, Kakinada, Tuticorin and Ennore
are the locations found suitable for the project.
EPL on behalf of the ministry of
shipping, road transport and highways, had called for EoI from shipyard firms
for participation in a global competition for setting up an international-size
shipyard on BOT basis on a suitable location on the east coast.
The shipyard project will have three
big docks, two for building and one for repair and the quay side length will be
2.5 km and water depth 12 metre.
