Farmton Foods, a subsidiary of the Somnath Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to invest Rs 580 crore in establishing a greenfield frozen potato processing plant in Mehsana.
Announced during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference at Ganpat University, this project represents Gujarat’s growth model by integrating industrial excellence with farmer empowerment. The plant, slated to start operations in 2026, will produce French fries, coated fries, hash browns, and specialty potato products, with 80 percent aimed for export. The initiative focuses on sustainable practices including a 50 percent reduction in water usage, zero-waste goals by 2030, and proprietary seed development.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted the project’s role in strengthening the agricultural economy, while Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw praised Gujarat’s innovative approach to rural development. Farmton Foods aims to empower farmers through contract farming and advanced technology, aligning with the “Make in India for the World” vision and boosting Gujarat’s status as India’s agri-processing hub.
