District Collector A Shyam Prasad on 03 December, 2025 instructed officials from the Irrigation department and the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) Engineering wing to expedite all ongoing irrigation projects in Sri Sathya Sai district in Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking during a review meeting at the Collectorate, he sought detailed updates on water availability in minor tanks, the progress of ongoing works, and future filling requirements. The district has 1,186 minor tanks with a total capacity of 15.32 tmcft. Currently, 680 tanks are holding 5.702 tmcft of water. Under medium irrigation projects, the Yogi Vemana and Upper Pennar projects hold 0.8 tmcft and 0.01 tmcft, respectively. The HNSS team reported that 60 out of 183 required tanks had been filled, with plans to provide more water to others soon.
The DC emphasised the importance of completing these projects on time to improve groundwater levels and mitigate the region's severe drought conditions.
